What We Do

Proper welding, on site or in the shop.

Manual metal arc and TIG welding for marine, structural and pipe work jobs. Coded to the standard the job demands, from a hull plate to a hand-rail. Now on ropes too, with IRATA rope access.

MMA Stick Welding

Manual metal arc welding to spec, on heavy steel, dirty steel and outdoor work where TIG can't keep up. Hand-blended root and cap.

TIG Welding

Clean fusion TIG on stainless, mild steel and aluminium. For food-grade pipe, hygienic process and marine fit-out work.

Marine Welding

Hull plates, bilge frames, over-plating, narrowboat refits and rebuilds. Built my own boat from scratch, now living on it in Gravesend.

Rope Access Welding

IRATA rope access, coded welding on ropes. Ship sides, tank internals and high steel welded without scaffold or a platform.

Structural Welding

Steel frames, RSJ work, columns and beams. Welded out on London builds and across the M25 corridor.

Pipe Welding

Spool fabrication, root and cap on carbon and stainless pipe. Process, riser, drainage and storm work for site teams.

Custom Fabrication

Brackets, frames, hand-rails, plinths and one-off builds. Bring a drawing or a back-of-an-envelope sketch.

On-Site Mobile Welding

Mobile rig, generator, full PPE. Welding where the work is, from sites across London out to the Kent and Essex coast.

About Michael

Run by Michael Carter. A welder who built his own boat.

Michael's Mobile Arc Welding is a one-man outfit based in Gravesend, Kent. I cover the M25 and Medway area day-to-day and travel across the whole of the South East: Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, plus London, Essex and the Home Counties, anywhere within around 100 miles. I take on marine, structural and pipe work jobs from coded site work to one-off fabrication.

The boat in the photo is mine. I built her from scratch over a few years, plate by plate, weld by weld. She floats, she runs, and she's where I live now, moored up in Gravesend. There's not much I haven't welded by this point.
